HUHS Snowboard Team WANTS 5th - 8th Grade Snowboarder's: The HUHS Snowboarding Team has been growing and would like to get the word out that it is not just for 9th-12th grade, it actually starts in middle school, as young as 5th grade, that can participate in this exciting sport. The only requirement is that you actually know how to snowboard, this isn't lessons on how to learn the actual sport itself. Our coaches realize that the students that know how to snowboard, may have never raced or have gone through timed gates, that where they come into the picture. They will teach you everything you need to know about how to race, form, gear, etc. This is a different program than the ski/snowboard school that is offered in January of each school year. Our Team meets in October, preps in November and starts practice two nights a week through the racing season, that begins in January and with any luck the high schoolers will be back to State and also to Nationals, as we did last year. This team prepares the middle school age students for actual racing, that they participate in and gain points plus win medals/titles in weekly competitions. If this is something that may interest you and your student, come and join us next Wednesday, October 5th in the Drama Lecture Hall at the HUHS - (Middle School age 6:00-6:45/ High School age 7:00-8:00)

HARTFORD Police Cadet Unit Youth Program: The Hartford Police Department Public Safety Cadet Unit is a volunteer organization that trains and teaches youth ages 14-20 about law enforcement. The program gives the participant an opportunity to learn about law enforcement from a different perspective and assess it as a possible career choice. Cadets train in hands-on scenarios that officers respond to, participate in local, state, and regional competitions, and volunteer at community-area events. Additionally, members of the program have the opportunity to go to leadership development academies for different federal law enforcement agencies.
